New Homeschooling Program brings Administration Changes at SPS and IFC
Prairie Rose Public Schools is pleased to announce that starting in September 2021, a full-time and shared responsibility homeschooling program will be added to the Prairie Rose education family. Last fall, the school division began the process of engaging with homeschool parents in southeast Alberta to understand more about programming priorities and reasons for choosing a homeschooling program. Through this process we learned that within the Prairie Rose attendance area there are many families who have chosen this educational option instead of in-person schooling. As a public school provider, it is important that Prairie Rose explore all opportunities for students living in our communities and the addition of a shared and full-time homeschooling program supports this goal.
As a result of the new program, the following administrative changes will be occurring over the next few weeks:
New Homeschooling Program Principal - Sherry Rissling
Prairie Rose is pleased to announce that Sherry Rissling, the current principal of Seven Persons School, has accepted the position as the new homeschooling principal. Mrs. Rissling has worked for Prairie Rose for the past 30 years, with the last 15 in an instructional leadership role. She has a bachelor of education with an early childhood diploma and special education specialization, and a masters of education from the University of Lethbridge. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about alternate education opportunities having supported homeschool placements and shared responsibility programming within her current position as principal.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Prairie Rose and one I have seen value in over the last nine years working at Seven Persons School. I look forward to working with parents and local schools, to support parental choice in education, throughout the entire division. ~Sherry Rissling
Sherry Rissling’s last day at Seven Persons School will be February 26, 2021, transitioning to her new role as homeschooling principal on March 1, 2021.
